ABOUT THE ITEM:

-These beautiful handmade copper rings are a replica of the great statue of Coatlicue.

Coatlicue is the Mexica serpent earth goddess, representing the sacred duality of the divine feminine. Her statue was buried in Tenochtitlan in 1521 by the Spaniards and was rediscovered in 1790. She was first displayed in a curiosity museum as something "horrendous" to marvel at. When mysterious offerings began to appear at her feet she was buried again so that the native people would forget her. Yet after 200 years they had not. The statue was the excavated years later and placed in a dark corner of a university courtyard inside of a fenced area, where again mysterious offerings began to appear.

Coatlicue, Nahuatl pronunciation: [koːaːˈtɬíːkʷe] meaning “skirt of snakes”, wife of Mixcōhuātl, also known as Tēteoh īnnān ( 'mother of the gods'), is the Mexica goddess who gave birth to the moon, stars, and Huītzilōpōchtli, the god of the sun and war. The goddesses Toci “our grandmother” and Cihuacōātl “snake woman”, the patron of women who die in childbirth, were also seen as aspects of Cōātlīcue.

Coatlicue is represented as a woman wearing a skirt of beautiful snakes and a necklace made of human hearts, hands, and skulls. Her feet and hands are adorned with claws and her breasts are flowing. Her face is formed by two facing serpents referring to when she was sacrificed during the beginning of the present creation and the blood that came from her neck formed two great serpents. The serpents themselves also represent her primordial connection to the earth and the great cycles of change.

These rings were born as part of my continuing Ancestral Collection that began back in 2017.
These rings are blessed with sacred smoke and were created with healing intention.
