This listing is for a Sahumerio- Tlemaitl- Hand incense burner- Fire Vessel measuring 12in L x 5in W x 3.5 in H featuring 6 skulls with a feather serpentine handle.

Each sahumerio comes with 1oz of Copal of equal amounts of white Copal and copal de lluvia. You also get 5 charcoal disks.

The sahumerio is used as a vessel to burn incense of Copal
and other sacred plants using charcoal. Popoxcomitl is the name given to a specific type of sahumerio that has a long base and an open basin at the top.
Another type of Sahumerio is the Tlemaitl which features a long handle. This is the type featured above.

Information:
The Sahumerio is a traditional indigenous Mexican tool to contact the teotl/universe/creator.
The smoke from the sacred resin of the Copal tree burns white and is the intermediary between the heavens and the earth.
Through this smoke prayers are carried into the universe. Traditional use in the home was used by lighting in the mornings
and evenings in gratitude and to cleanse the home energetically.
Ceremonial usage of the sahumerio was also practiced by initiated individuals on the path of the Popochcomitl (Sahumadoras, Priests, Curanderxs).
Use of the sahumerio for personal ritual can be accessed by the uninitiated but it is with great respect that the uninitiated refrain from practicing ritual with the sahumerio for others in respect for our traditions. We must handle this part of our traditions responsively.
It is important that you form a relationship with your sahumerio as it becomes an extension of you and your prayers. It is for this reason that we must love and show respect always.

Preparation of Vessel:
In order to establish a relationship with your sahumerio you must first consecrate it, or prepare it energetically, by going outdoors and finding a spot that feels right and asking mother earth and caretaking spirits if one may open/dig a hole in her land. You must dig with your bare hands asking for prayers of strength for your sahumerio so that it may generate love, harmony, peace, abundance, and happiness etc. Once the hole is deep enough to bury your sahumerio upside down you may now place your sahumerio in the earth with loving intention. It is believed that all elements have an essence and it is important to explain to your sahumerio and let it know your intention. The sahumerio must be buried for 8 days, on the 8th day the sahumerio is taken out of the earth and then blessed water (moon water or any other blessed water) must be placed inside the vessel for 5 days resulted in the sacred number 13. In some variations, the sahumerio is buried for 9 days to symbolize the time spent in our mother's womb. After the 13th day the sahumerio is now ready to be used. The sahumerio must be treated with great respect as it is now a sacred extension of you, the teotl, or universe. It is like a baby that must be loved and protected. That being said the sahumerio must be placed on an altar and treated with respect, it is not to be used casually or as a vessel for anything other than sacred resins/medicines. Ashes from your prayers may be buried into the earth.

How to light:

Light using a charcoal disk for indoors, to light the disk use matches or lighter on the disk until it begins to spark and then place inside of the vessel. After a few minutes the disk should turn an ashy white color, when this occurs the disk is now ready to burn incense. Place a small pinch of loose incense or Copal onto the disk and set your intention. Smoke should rise from the vessel. Enjoy. To break apart copal you can use a small hammer.
